The oncologist Dr Isam Bankousli was born in Syria and graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1978. Thereafter he received training in Internal Medicine at KAT General Hospital in Athens as well as the General Hospital Sismanoglio in Athens.
In 1985 he moved to the U.S.A. This was followed by five years of further training at Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo, New York, one of the oldest and largest cancer research institutes worldwide. Training in Clinical-Oncology included numerous clinical trials and the development of anticancer drugs and photodynamic anticancer therapies.
In 1989 he was awarded his PhD by the Medical School of Athens with an honorary distinction.
From 1996 to 2002 he served as a research associate- temporary professor- in the chemotherapy- oncology lesson of oncology-radiotherapy department of the Technical Institutes of Athens.
Since 1998 he directs the Department of Medical Oncology of Athens Medical Center at Maroussi Athens.
He was representative of the Municipality of Athens to the European Union to improve the care of its citizens while he was also vice president of the scientific Committee of the Consumer Association of Greece.
Dr Bankousli has participated in numerous speeches at conferences, information days, the media and in numerous scientific publications as well as organizing conferences.
Furthermore, doctor Bankousli is a member of many Greek and international scientific societies, including:
· American Society of Clinical Oncology
· European Society for Medical Oncology
· Arab American Society of Clinical Oncology
· Hellenic Society of Clinical Oncologists
